In recent posts I covered the factors that influence our ability to be Present in our lives, Cognition-Body-Mood. I find it useful to think of the three as constituting a wheel. As long as these aspects are in balance so the wheel is round, our mood is in balance. If we feel out of balance, focusing on one of these three aspects will move us in the right direction. For example, if you are feeling stuck and depressed, challenging your negative thoughts can have a positive effect on your mood. Or going for a brisk walk or bike ride can shift a negative mood. Accessing feelings of gratitude or appreciation can shift your mood which is why keeping a gratitude journal is so powerful.
